Queens' Flushing Mall, a destination among foodies for its deliciously packed food court, will be demolished next year, according to YourNabe. The subterranean food court is currently home to a location of Xi'an Famous Foods, as well as Lanzhou Noodle and plenty of shaved ice, dumpling vendors, and pastry shops, and it's big among the Yelpers and the Serious Eats and Chowhound sets.
Why the destruction? The whole mall is being torn down to make room for 647 parking spaces for Flushing Commons, a controversial mixed-use megaproject that includes 600 new apartments and some retail space of its own. Construction should begin sometime next year.
