Graydon Carter Was Once/Is Now Interested in Elaine's

New, 11 comments

In a gossipy piece today, the Daily News reveals that restaurateur and media mogul Graydon Carter and Patroon owner Ken Aretsky were once interested in taking over Upper East Side writers' club and restaurant Elaine's. And who knows—maybe they still are.

The two men both made overtures to the restaurant matriarch Elaine Kaufman as early as two years ago and as recently as last fall. Since her death however, the current owner—the restaurant's manager Diane Becker—has publicly said that the restaurant is not for sale and that nothing will change with the running of it. When contacted about the claims Aretsky told the News "I have nothing to say."
