The French Culinary Institute's Dave Arnold and the co-founder of Heritage Foods USA, Patrick Martins are currently in the fund-raising stage for the Museum of Food and Drink, a non-profit corporation "dedicated to educating its visitors about the history, culture, production, commerce and science of food." Visitors to the museum will be privy to special exhibitions, chef presentations, historical tastings, and scientific demonstrations. A special emphasis will be placed on appreciating lost culinary arts, including recipes and regional ingredients.
Sounds pretty great! How are they going to raise the money? By putting together the most bad-ass lunch of all time. Some of the best chefs in the city will put together a multi-course menu, with each chef focusing on the food of a specific time period. The line up is as follows:
Dave Chang, Momofuku: American Food circa 1491
Wylie Dufresne, WD-50: Cave Man Food
Mark Ladner, Del Posto: Ancient Rome
Nils Noren, French Culinary Institute: Fad Diets
Cesare Casella, Salumeria Rosi: Shriveled Meats (don’t worry, we mean salumi)
Carlo Mirarchi, Roberta’s: New York Food in the 1900’sMeanwhile bartenders including Audrey Saunders and Damon Boelte will provide the cocktails.
Brooks Headley, Del Posto: Hebrew Food in Italy
Christina Tosi, Momofuku Milk Bar: Space Food
Now how does one get a taste of this monstrous meeting of the minds? It takes place on Sunday March 27 at Del Posto, and $250 tickets can be bought here.
