Cafe Gitane Team Plans Italian Spot for Chrystie Street

The owners of Cafe Gitane, the 11 year-old favorite among fashionable Nolita Euros, waited almost a decade before expanding the concept to a new space, the ground floor of the Jane Hotel. Now two years later they're expanding again.

Bowery Boogie notices a new liquor license notice for 177 Chrystie Street at Rivington, and according to paperwork filed with Community Board 3, the Gitane crew (based just five blocks away) is behind it. They plan on opening a "family-style Italian restaurant" called Antonioni's that will have just nine tables and a 22 foot U-shaped bar. They go before CB3 on Monday.
