Last night, news broke that bachelorette party favorite Lucky Cheng's was on the market for $25,000 a month, sparking speculation that it might be leaving its 1st Avenue home of almost 20 years. Now the Local EV confirms that the restaurant is indeed headed to a massive new space near Times Square, somewhere on 52nd Street (the owner, Hayne Suthon, doesn't want to reveal the exact location, as they haven't signed the lease yet).
Suthon cites the decline in tourist traffic as the reason for their move, noting: "The phone used to ring off the hook, but as Times Square became a magnet for tourists — we just can’t get them down here.” If everything goes according to plan, the new space will feature seating for 350 people, two performance areas, and an all-you-can-eat buffet. The transition should happen sometime in the next six months.
