Lower East Side institution Russ & Daughters, which turns 100 in two years, may finally be expanding. The appetizing store and mecca for smoked fish and caviar, is in talks to open a new shop in the forthcoming NoMad Hotel, says NoMad developer Andrew Zobler. The deal hasn't closed, he tells the Wall Street Journal but "notes it is an example of interest in the neighborhood by home-grown New York retailers." So come 2012, a neighborhood that once had very little may have a Russ & Daughters, a restaurant from Daniel Humm, a Museum of Mathematics (coming soon!), Eataly, the suite of properties within the Ace Hotel, and FoodParc, all within a 10 block radius.
