Cultishly loved indie coffee roaster Blue Bottle announced this summer that they would finally open a stand alone cafe in Manhattan, in Rockefeller Center to be exact, two years after the first ever New York Blue Bottle debuted in Williamsburg. Six months later, owner James Freeman reveals that construction is just now beginning on the Rock Center cafe, noting it won't open until much later this winter.
That's the bad news. The good news is Rock Center is no longer the only planned Manhattan location.
A Blue Bottle will also open this winter (perhaps around the same time) in the Milk Building across from the Chelsea Market and its roaster of choice 9th Street Espresso. They'll be opening in the old loading dock of the building right next the home of fashion mecca Milk Studios—meaning the should do brisk business with the strung-out models and fashionistas during Fashion Week.
Adds Freeman, "I'm excited about both shops, but especially Chelsea because we can serve toast. I've been going a little nuts tasting jam lately." Hear that, coffee nerds? Blue Bottle and toast right by the High Line.
