Upper East Side's Le Caprice to Close, Possibly Relocate

New, 4 comments

A couple of weeks ago rumors swirled that Sirio Maccioni, patriarch of Le Cirque, was in negotiations to take over the restaurant space in the Pierre Hotel, currently home to London import Le Caprice, to open a more upscale location of his Vegas restaurant Sirio there. And it's looking ever more likely now that the hotel and restaurant have released the following statement:

Le Caprice has been a shining light on the New York restaurant scene since 2009. After an extensive search and through mutual agreement with the Taj Group (owners of the The Pierre Hotel) le Caprice will be moving to a new site that is currently being finalised.

Caprice Holdings and The Pierre Hotel have greatly enjoyed working together and wish each other continued success for the future.
When the $7 million Le Caprice opened in the Pierre in 2009, owner Richard Caring said that his American clientele that were "loyal" would get tables and that he was focused on getting "buzz." But two years and a series of tepid reviews later, he's throwing in the towel (at least in this location). Stayed tuned to find out whether or not the Maccionis ink the deal and where this new Le Caprice site may be. And note that the restaurant will remain open until the new location is finalized.
