Status: Opening tonight
According to staff at the restaurant and their twitter page, the long awaited debut of Veselka Bowery is finally upon us, three years after it was first announced. The second branch of the East Village Ukrainian staple opens to the public tonight in the Avalon Bowery on 1st and Bowery, with expanded hours to come eventually.
Those familiar with the East 9th Street location will find many of the old favorites on the menu here, including potato pancakes, varenykys, burgers, Chicken Kiev, and borsht with some new additions thrown in like mamaliga (a kind of porridge) and knydli (little pastries made of potato dough). What else is new: a fully stocked bar with an emphasis on their 75 vodkas and a new focus on cocktails. It opens at 5 PM, closes at midnight. Send all early reports right this way please.
