Di Fara's shuttering at the hands of the Department of Health isn't the only major pizza news coming out of Brooklyn today. The Brooklyn Paper learns that Grimaldi's Pizzeria, a Dumbo icon, will move to what owners say is a "bigger, nicer, and cleaner" facility next door after failing to resolve issues with their landlord. The pizzeria will serve their final pie at the original 19 Old Fulton Street space next Monday and plan on opening a 1 Front Street on Tuesday, in a restaurant space under a nightclub.
The news doesn't come as a surprise. The landlord tried to evict the pizzeria last year, citing months of unpaid back rent, and vowed to get rid of them when their current lease, which ends at the end of this month, was up.
