The Top 12 Restaurant Viral Videos of 2011

New, 2 comments

This year, the restaurants of New York produced an astonishing number of homemade videos. Some of these were stylish short films, others were half-baked commercials, and more than a few were just clips of staff members goofing around. There may be others before the year is over, but these are the twelve to beat:

12) "Guac It Out" by Dos Toros: The burrito-rollers at Dos Toros recently dropped this guacamole-themed rap jam. Sample lyrics: "Up in the club with a couple of chips. You find me, VIP, doing guacamole dips.":

11) Dominique Ansel's Kouign Amann: One of the cool things about leaving a four star restaurant to start your own bakery is that you get to make charming little videos like this.:

10) Littleneck - a clam shack coming soon to Gowanus!: This video was made by three dudes with a dream. And just last month, that dream came true:

9) The Brown Boys - Give Me Kati Roll (Tonight) feat. The Urban Nerd & Sam Hasan: The guys from MacDougal Street fast casual spot Kati Roll put together this music video to the tune of Ne-Yo's "Tonight (Give Me Everything)." Naturally, they switch up the lyrics so that they're about Indian street food. Bonus points for half-assed boy band dance moves:

8) Rubirosa: This is how the employees of Rubirosa get ready for the Feast of San Gennaro:

7) The Salad Dressing Stomp: Zak Pelaccio is a great chef and a surprisingly good blues singer:

6) Rockaway Taco Promotional Video: Worth watching if only because of the brilliant use of Cosby Show footage:

5) Num Pang's Mural: Some very cool work with the spray can here. Also: apparently the Num Pang guys still listen to Sublime. Who knew? :

4) Torrisi Italian Specialties: This mysterious little video was released back in April, way, way before the Torrisi Boys announced that they were going to start serving a tasting menu based on NYC's vast culinary history. Clearly, they were dropping hints about their future plans:

3) The Dutch: Hours before the Torrisi video was released, The Dutch's website went live with this groovy montage:

2) Roberta's at Art Basel: Team Awesome Space Pizza created this warped, NSFW video about the Roberta's pop-up cafe at Miami's Art Basel Fest:

1) The Place Restaurant Promo: Perhaps the greatest restaurant viral video of all time. "We were looking for special but we got...magical.":
