One downside of the NBA lockout: sales at New York area sports bars are down about 30 percent from fall of last year. State Senator Malcolm A. Smith of Queens scheduled a press conference today with the United Restaurant and Tavern Owners Association to announce a new petition to get the ballplayers and owners to come to some sort of agreement. The tagline of their campaign is "Don’t Play Games With Fans: Play on the Courts.” A petition will be circulated at over 2,000 bars starting this weekend. [DJ]
