We called around to ten popular New York restaurants — some new, some old — to find out if there are any additions to the menu tonight. Here are the Saturday night specials:
Porsena: Two appetizer specials tonight: lentil and black kale soup with fresh olive oil, and a salad of prosciutto and micro mustard greens. The pasta special is agnolotti filled with puntarelle and spinach, in a sauce of brown butter, cream, and walnuts.
Union Square Cafe: USC is serving a seared pork chop with fall root vegetables with a pear and apple glaze, as well as a cassouletta with sausage confit, coppa fresca, and shell beans (here's a fresh photo). Also: chicken and rice with Tokyo turnips and Brussels sprouts, and a pasta special of lobster ravioli.
The Leopard at Des Artistes: A lot of specials at The Leopard tonight: to start, burrata and tomatoes, and lentil soup. The special pasta is topped with a veal and porcini ragu, and they're also offering a seafood risotto with scallops, clams, mussels, and calamari. The catch of the day is a whole broiled branzino with braised fennel and spinach.
Bar Boulud: Tonight, Bar Boulud is serving truffle pasta, Gildden Point oysters, and a crudo of Nantucket Bay scallops, as well as a Wagyu steak entree.
Ciano: The two specials at Shea Gallante's Italian restaurant tonight are a sardine appetizer and a skate entree. They're also offering their fall pasta tasting (PDF).
The Meatball Shop: They're serving a special Buffalo chicken ball with bleu cheese sauce dressing and Frank's hot sauce.
The Standard Grill: Tonight, the specials at The Standard Grill are a lamb shank entree and a plate of ravioli.
Lyon: Lyon is offering an Arctic char entree special tonight.
Diner: In addition to their regular menu, Diner is serving a bacon and apple soup, a radicchio salad, a poached egg small plate, a tempura-battered fritto misto appetizer, and a sardine plate. For entrees, they're serving spaghetti, bass, chicken, a whole porgy, and a couple of steaks.
Spasso: As an appetizer, Spasso is offering a special fluke crudo with a sea urchin puree, mushrooms, and grapes. The entree special is a 30-day dry-aged strip steak.
