We called around to ten popular New York restaurants — some new, some old — to find out if there are any additions to the menu tonight. Here are the Saturday night specials: Balthazar: Tonight, Balthazar is serving their regular Saturday special of braised short ribs, as well as a red snapper entree. The soup du jour is mushroom puree, and the raw bar has king crabs and scallops.
Empellon: It's a taco special tonight: Japanese wagyu steak with borracha salsa. Comes with fingerling potatoes.
La Grenouille: The plate du jour is rack of veal.
Lupa: The pasta special is pappardelle with chicken ragu, and the entree is an orata filet with baby turnips and spinach.
The Meatball Shop Brooklyn: They're doing chile relleno balls tonight.
The Red Cat: As a starter, The Red Cat is serving beets with an orange and grapefruit emulsion, feta cheese, almonds, and shaved fennel. As a side order, they're offering Brussels sprouts with brown butter and shallots.
Motorino: The special pie tonight has prosciutto di Parma, pecorino, mozzarella, extra virgin olive oil, and fresh oregano.
Prune: Several appetizer additions tonight: monkfish liver, mussels, and escargots. Prune is also doing carrots as a special side order.
Veritas: For crudo specials, Vertias is offering salmon belly and striped bass tonight. The market special is a root vegetable risotto with tri-colored carrots, parsnips, and Brussels sprouts.
Hearth: The addition tonight is a whole roasted American red snapper. It comes with roasted potatoes, fennel, and red onions.
