Ever since the repeal of Prohibition, New Yorkers have been able to drink alcoholic beverages in theaters of any kind—except movies theaters. But when the owners of Williamsburg's new Nitehawk Cinema launched plans to open a movie house with a full menu (created by chef Saul Bolton) served in the seats, they behind to work behind the scenes to change that. On August 17, Governor Cuomo signed a law allowing drinks in the theater, and soon thereafter the owners applied to Community Board 1 in Brooklyn and the State Liquor Authority for a license. Which they now have.
Starting tonight, Nitehawk goers will be able to order wine, beer, booze, and a bevvy of cocktails right to their seats. And, what timing, the menu launches alongside the new Johnny Depp movie The Rum Diary during a midnight screening. Check out the full dinner and drinks menu below, which includes specials made for each specific film.
