Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are five choice dining events going on around the city:
1) New York City Wine & Food Festival
Where: Meatpacking District
When: Saturday and Sunday
What: The biggest New York food fest of the year is going on all weekend. Most of the choice events are totally sold out, but you can still buy tickets to some of the classes, tastings, and demonstrations (as of this morning there were still slots available for: Grilled Cheese Gourmet with Laura Werlin, Sushi with Toshio Tomita and Mark Oldman, and Murray's Cheese at Norwood, to name a few). Eater's headquarters for the festival this year is the ground floor of The Dream Downtown Hotel, where we'll be coming at you live with cameos from some of the best chefs in the universe. So if you're in the neighborhood, do stop by.
2) Frankies Oktoberfest
Where: Frankies 457
When: Sunday, 12 - 5 PM
What: Frankies 457, Prime Meats, and Edible Schoolyard are throwing an Oktoberfest party on Sunday, with food, drink, and live music from the Ja Ja Jas. The Franks will be dishing out oysters, schnitzel, apfelstrudel, and bratwurst, plus hot cider and plenty of Sixpoint ale.
3) Toast
Where: 289 Kent Avenue
When: Saturday and Sunday at 7PM
What: The film adaptation of British food writer Nigel Slater's memoir is showing at the new IndieScreen theater in Williamsburg. The movie looks to be a food-centric coming of age story, and if you want to go full-on gourmet, IndieScreen serves fancy concessions like beef carpaccio, arancini, shrimp kebabs, etc. Here's the preview:
4) Jewish Specialties at Smorgasburg
Where: 27 North 6 Street
When: Saturday 9 AM - 5 PM
Several of the vendors at this weekly market on the Williamsburg waterfront will be serving Jewish delicacies today in celebration of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and Sukkhot. Roberta's Breads will serve challah, Mighty Quinn will offer brisket, Skytown will have stuffed cabbage, Chozen will scoop apple and honey ice cream, and more.
5) Truck Yeah
Where: 60 South 2nd Street
When: Sunday 2 - 6 PM
What: Ten trucks are meeting up at the Crown Victoria Bar in South Williamsburg to celebrate the growing mobile culture in NYC. CoolHaus Ice Cream Sandwiches, Green Pirate Truck Juice, The Mud Truck, and Rickshaw Dumpling Truck will all be in attendance, as well as a few art, performance, and retail-focused trucks.
Also of Note: The New Amsterdam Market is tomorrow, down at The Seaport. For brunch, take a look at Eater's list of NYC's hottest new brunch spots. For a new restaurant to try, consider Terroir Murray Hill, Saxon & Parole, La Mar Cebicheria, or Jung Sik. And, if you're feeling adventurous, perhaps you might enjoy a meal at one of New York's 10 "secret" restaurants.
