Elaine Kaufman Leaves Restaurant, Building to Manager

As has been speculated since the Upper East Side doyenne's death last month, Elaine Kaufman, founder and owner of celeb and writer haunt Elaine's, has left the restaurant and the two buildings she owned to her longtime general manager Diane Becker. Becker, a 26 year veteran of the restaurant, said nothing will change. The restaurant will be run the same and there are no plans to sell.

The same may not be true of the treasure trove of contents inside of Kaufman's apartment. The co-op apartment is being sold to pay off taxes and hundreds of thousands in bequests, and if it doesn't sell for enough, the legendary art collection and gifts from famed New Yorkers and literary figures could potentially end up on the auction block.
