Several Years Later, The Box Finalizes London Expansion Plans

New, 2 comments

The Box, Simon Hammerstein's adult theater and nightclub, has finally locked up its London expansion plans, leasing the Raymond Revue Bar in Soho. The neighborhood was once known for its plethora of sex shops, massage parlors and strip joints, but has become more gentrified during the recent real estate boom. The deal was announced just three and a half short years after Hammerstein first began looking for a space across the pond, and is a bit surprising, considering that the Box's time at the top of the New York nightlife scene seems to have passed. But unlike his neighbors on the Lower East Side who railed against Hammerstein during the Box's heyday and the fickle New York crowds, the residents of Soho are eagerly anticipating the club's arrival, hoping that the club will help preserve the neighborhood's quickly disappearing character. One resident explains that he'd "rather see a burlesque club open than yet another branch of Slug and Lettuce." Amen.
