State investigators allege that by using high-tech cash register devices and point of sale (POS) systems, scores of restaurants, bars, and nightclubs are cheating the state out of hundreds of millions of dollars in uncollected taxes. Apparently, owners are voiding actual sales in their systems, and thus lowering the taxes they're required to pay. In fact, the majority of POS salesmen use tax evading angles in their pitches. [NYP]
