Brothers Tom and Anthony Martignetti, of Brinkley's and Southside fame, are planning a new 180 seat, Asian-inspired restaurant in a 6,000 square-foot space at 200 Canal Street. The block was formerly home to a string of knock-off handbag stores, which earned it the fun nickname "The Counterfeit Triangle." Those places were raided in 2008 and shut down, and some suggested that the spot was doomed for any sort of turnaround.
Appearing before the CB 1 this week, the Bros. pitched the new spot as an upscale restaurant and bar with Keith Harry, a Chanterelle and Macao Trading Co. vet, manning the stoves. Expect things like seafood baos, hot pots and fancy dumplings. The Martignettis were granted the super-rare, highly coveted 4AM Thursday-Saturday closing time for the new place, but there's no word yet on when they plan to open the restaurant or what it will be called. Perhaps they'll look to the space's history for inspiration, and just name it "Counterfeit Triangle."
