Last year, regulars and neighborhood nostalgists were saddened to hear that The Rum House, a 37 year-old establishment within Midtown's Edison Hotel, lost its lease and was forced to close. But then some good news came along with the bad. Just earlier this month, the owners of lovely Tribeca bar Ward III announced that they would be taking over the space, refurbishing it, and opening it as a modern cocktail bar with the same name.
Thus, last night, the new version of Rum House opened to the public, complete with a new piano (a tribute to its predecessor's piano bar theme) and much of the same look but with cleaned up and/or new flooring, banquettes, and lighting and a fixed up bar. Cocktails run $12 - 14 and include Old Fashioneds, Manhattans, martinis, and rum cocktails like mojitos, tortugas, mai tais, and dark and stormies.
