This pick is an obvious but painful one. Obvious because SD26 is just so wrong on so many levels. It's like grandpa trying to go to the nightclub, this old respected but perhaps fading San Domenico trying so desperately to be modern with a giant new space, Euro beats in the sleek wine lounge, an electronic wine list, and artsy lighting structures. Its name chef Odette Fada exited months ago, though the critics never really took to what she was doing in the new space. And the restaurant continues to roll out specials—free late night pizza, jazz brunch!

It's painful because Marissa May is one of the loveliest ladies in this business and because her father, Tony is a king of old school Italian dining in New York. (And we had a rockin' party there last year.) Its year anniversary comes next month. Time will tell if it will make it to year two.
