Last February, a disastrous fire took out up and coming Williamsburg neighborhood spot The Brooklyn Star. They've been rebuilding since then, and a walk by back in June revealed that everything was looking in tip top shape.
But today we learn that the owners have abandoned the space, at least for the Brooklyn Star concept. In an email to friends and followers, owner Joaquin Baca announces that the Brooklyn Star team has taken the old Lazy Catfish space on Lorimer and Conselyea, just a block from the Lorimer L stop. And this time around Simon Gibson of Wilfie and Nell is on board to run the bar. They hope to open by the holidays. See the full email below:
Dearest friends and family, just a little update. As you may recall we had a bit of a fire back in February. We have spent the time since then getting the star back together. However, during the delay we've had the chance to come upon another great space that was just too good to pass up. We signed the lease this month and have begun the process of getting open. We are hoping to get the doors open to you by the· Brooklyn Star Getting Close to Reopening After Fire [~ENY~]
holidays. The new space is located at 593 Lorimer at the corner of Conselyea, not far from our old space. Russ and I have been fortunate to have Simon Gibson (of Wilfie and Nell) partner up with us this time around. He'll be running the full bar we hope and expect to have. We miss you all and hope to be seeing you soon. Thank you one and all for your support and help in the interim; it has kept the dream alive. Oh.. by the way. The old space at 33 Havemeyer will be staying in the family. We'll let you more when we know.
