Almost three weeks ago, the PR firms launched the unofficial start of the fall season by sending out their fall preview press releases. And now it's time for the media outlets to follow suit with their massive annual fall preview guides. Metromix is out of the gate with a five parter covering about 50 restaurants in Downtown West, Downtown East, Midtown, Uptown, and "Brooklyn & Beyond".
Over at New York they have a list of the restaurants the Underground Gourmet is looking forward to paired with a more general round up of what the dining world has in store. They also have a lovely q&a with Mario Batali about Eataly—one of the restaurants will have a raw meat bar with a rotating list of carpaccio and steak tartare—a piece about how rustic and osteria-like Michael White's Osteria Morini will be, a blurb offering up some new intel on Andrew Carmellini's new American restaurant in the old Cub Room space (Waffle House is a design inspiration), and a preview of the best nightlife spots opening this fall.
After the Times runs its monster preview closer to Labor Day, there will be a chance to step back and decide which are the spots to watch (Osteria Morini, Carmellini's new place, Lincoln, perhaps), which have zero odds of opening before the new year, and what new trends lay on the horizon.
