Currently, there are some good eats over in the Rockaways, most notably Rockaway Taco. But the city's Parks Department wants there to be more. Thus, they've just put out a request for proposals for the neighborhood and the beach's boardwalk. What they're looking for: three snack bars spread between Beach 86th street and Beach 106th Street and exclusive use of the boardwalk for up to 20 mobile food units. They're looking for one concessionaire to run the whole operation, also with the option of renting out beach gear, and are seeking menus that offer "quality, variety, and affordability." Sadly, original or exciting food carts aren't really a priority, as they're restricting the mobile menus to hot dogs and pretzels.
Still, there's potential. Applications for the RFP are due on September 13, and there will be a site visit on August 20. You can download the PDF version of the RFP here.
