198 Orchard St., LES
Status: Certified Open
After a week of preview dinners, Eddie Huang’s follow up to BaoHaus and second restaurant in less than eight months, Xiao Ye, officially opened to the public last night. The inaugural service featured a $45 six course tasting menu, similar to that of Torrisi, which will also be available Tuesday-Thrusday this week (Xiao Ye is closed on Monday). An à la carte menu will be offered Friday onwards, full of Huang’s take on classic Taiwanese dishes, with names like ‘Concubine Cucumbers’ and ‘Poontang Potstickers.’ In terms of design, the rectangular space is reminiscent of BaoHaus, but with a full bar, and several booths and tables with stools, plus a big wall full of funny, personal photos of Eddie and his friends and family, kind of like something you'd find on his blog. Currently, Xiao Ye is only open for dinner and does not take any reservations, do send any early reports this way.
