Serendipity to Sell Most Expensive Hot Dog in the World

New, 12 comments

Not content to peddle only in absurdly priced sundaes, Upper East Side dessert shop and tourist hotspot Serendipity 3 now sells a $69 hot dog. What merits the price tag? The beef dog is grilled in white truffle oil, as is its pretzel bread bun. Also, "the Haute Dog will be topped with medallions of duck foie gras with black truffles, caramelized Vidalia onions, heirloom tomato ketchup and, of course, mustard (Dijon, with black truffles)." Sounds almost...grotesque, like the Humm Dog on steroids.

The restaurant launches it this afternoon in honor of "National Hot Dog Day" and a Guinness World Records rep will be on hand to deem it the most expensive in the world. A rep for the restaurant already has a target customer in mind: "Cher is a regular who always gets the regular foot-long...Now we will offer her the most expensive one."
