Ravi DeRossi Tackles New Spirit; Red Hook Films' Great Food

RED HOOK— Every Tuesday night, a different Brooklyn restaurant sponsors free outdoor movie series Red Hook Films. Tomorrow, The Red Hook Lobster Pound will sell lobster rolls for Deep Blue Sea, next week is Rice and Big Wednesday, followed by Good Fork and Cabin Boy. The series used to be funded by the city but now is going due to the generosity of sponsors. [EaterWire]

EAST VILLAGE— The Brindle Room will be offering free tomato and mozzarella bruschetta for all diners this evening. [EaterWire]

NEW YORK— After opening a tequila bar (Mayahuel) and a rum bar (Cocteleria), East Village empire builder Ravi DeRossi is planning bars in both LA and New York called Gin Palace. However this time around, he'll plant his flag outside of the East Village: "I don't think the community board will give me another liquor license...I have five already so they'd probably turn me down."
