Bouley Empire Loses One More: Upstairs at Bouley is Dunzo

New, 9 comments

Tribeca Citizen reports that David Bouley's Upstairs will shutter on Saturday. The five-year-old eatery with a "sprawling menu," and "crazy decor" is the latest casualty in David Bouley's restaurant empire. Back in May, Bouley announced he was shuttering Bouley Bakery because of marginal profits. While the cause of this shutter has not been cited, Bouley's ongoing financial woes might just have something to do with it.

Update: An update indicates it is not shuttering, but changing into a private events space: "According to Nicole Bouley, the ground floor will be a bakery along the lines of what it used to be before it moved across the street, selling a smaller selection of bread, pastries, and baked goods, as well as burgers, fries, and the popular roast chicken. Upstairs (at Upstairs) will be a catering and event space; on Wednesday and Thursday nights guest chefs will take over, cooking for the public." Another update: Flo Fab reports it will be a cooking school/catering space called Bouley Studio. [TC; Diner's Journal]
