The bizarro looking place above is Il Matto, an Italian restaurant that opened last night at the old Arqua space in Tribeca. A few things to know. They serve incredibly unusual cocktails that include garnishes like huge pieces of lettuce or ingredients like ricotta. The chef and owner Matteo Boglione worked in Italy for a decade before moving to New York running the show at Gradisca, and he is serving "sophisticated Italian fare with an eccentric twist." Reviews are of course sparse at this moment, but one Yelper is a huge fan.
Oh and the name Il Matto: it means the mad man in Italian. Which may explain a lot.
