COBBLE HILL— As those who pre-ordered the book have already learned, the Frankies Spuntino cookbook, or more precisely, "Kitchen Companion & Cooking Manual," arrived a little earlier than the original June 14 release date. And as mentioned earlier, indeed she is a beauty. For those craving some face time with eponymous chefs Franks Falcinelli and Castronovo, who also own the recently two-starred Prime Meats, on Sunday they're holding a book signing and gallery show prior to the official release party with author Peter Meehan and illustrator (and former Spuntino waitress) Sarah Rutherford at Brooklyn's Cafe Pedlar. Meanwhile, they're teaming up with the meatastic dynamic duo behind Animal, and will host a pop-up dinner at the LA restaurant in on June 30. [EaterWire]

WEST VILLAGE— Grub Street learns that Hotel Griffou is opening an ice cream cart outside of the restaurant. Starting June 7, they'll serve flavors like Salted Caramel Banana Cream Pie, Griffou Cinnamon Sticky Bun, and Key Lime Pie. [GS]
EAST VILLAGE—More info on Steak Shoppe, the gimmicky East Village restaurant that's replacing the gimmicky Permanent Brunch: "We sell spirits straight or on the rocks, that’s all." Whatever happened to opening normal restaurants? [Diner's Journal]
