Pizzeria, Taqueria, and American Grill to Open in Police Plaza

Brooklyn Bridge Park isn't the only New York public space to get a slew of new vendors. Back in December, the Dept. of Transportation began quietly seeking vendors to take over a grouping of four food kiosks over on Police Plaza on Centre St. Danny Meyer's people were spotted down there checking the place out but didn't end up going for it.

Instead the city has chosen Park South Hospitality (The Volstead, PS 450). They plan on renaming the area Open Air Cafe and will launch four concepts: an American grill, a taqueria, a pizzeria, and a coffee/sandwich shop. And this, "We also believe that the plaza has been underutilized as one of the great outdoor spaces of lower Manhattan and are planning some changes that we hope will increase everyone’s enjoyment of the area." They hope to open sometime in Mid-May.
