The new wine bar right next door to (and related to) West Village hit Dell'Anima will be called Anfora and it will start serving friends and family as early as next week, with a full public opening to follow. The restaurant's twitter account describes it as a "new biodynamic producer-driven dining experience in New York's West Village."
Meanwhile a look at the menu on its official website reveals they'll be serving salumi, cheeses, snacks like marinated olives and soft boiled eggs, paninis, lamb ragu sliders, and small plates like penne crostata, octopus salad, and pork terrine. Everything is under $10. There's a list of $12 cocktails, local beers on tap, and a large selection of whiskys, grappas, amari, and dessert wines. The full wine list isn't up yet, but knowing owner Joe Campanale, it will be impressive indeed.
As for that name? It's what Italians used to store and transport wines back in the day.
