No one seems more excited about opening a restaurant in New York City these days than BaoHaus chef/owner Eddie Huang. As the summer debut of his new LES. Taiwanese joint Xiao Ye (fka CrackHaus) approaches, Huang has been constantly updating his blog, Fresh Off the Boat, with photos of new dishes, as well as his thoughts on employees, Yelpers, Hip Hop, street wear and what's going on in the L.E.S. these days. His second restaurant in less than six months, Xiao Ye is a much more ambitious project than BaoHaus: it will have table seating and a menu that expands upon his own brand of “American Born Asian” cuisine considerably, while keeping the price point competitive for the neighborhood.
Huang is a talented young chef, ambitious and outspoken to boot. We’re going to be periodically checking in with him in a new feature called "Haus Call," where we will find out what he's doing at that very moment. Odds are, it'll be something crazy.
Stay tuned for future dispatches from the Xiao Ye mother ship. Until then, feel free to get to know Huang a little better, with a video of one of his biggest claims to fame thus far: an appearance on the Guy Fieri-hosted Food Network show, Ultimate Recipe Showdown, which aired a few months ago.
