Cafe Select Begs Regulars to Aid Them in Battle with CB2

New, 11 comments

Troubled but popular Petrosino Square eatery Cafe Select is aching to get a little sidewalk cafe action. They were approved by Community Board 2's sidewalks committee but fear there will be a fight when the application goes before the full board tomorrow. So, they're resorting to a little grassroots mobilization. The following email was sent out earlier today to locals and the restaurant's regulars:

Dear friends

We need your support in our battle to get our small outdoor café license. Even though we have been approved by the sidewalks committee our fight is not over and we have to put the pressure on next Thursday at the full community board meeting to get approval.

We have to fight for our right to sit outside in our neighborhood!

Please send a quick email (see prepared attachment) to voice your opinion and forward your testimony supporting our application for a small outdoor café license with full operating hours to [redacted]. Your testimony will be entered into the record. All emails should be cc’d to [redacted] so I can claim proof of these testimonies.

We’ll make it easy for you. Please find attached an email template that you can paste and personalize. Don’t forget to put your name, address and phone number at the bottom and cc your correspondence to me.

Dear Mr Hamilton

Dear Community Board

I am writing to you in reference to the Full Board Committee Meeting, Thursday May 20th at 6 PM. I am unable to attend this meeting but nevertheless would like to give testimony in regards to the application of a small outdoor café license of Café Select, located at 212 Lafayette Street (212 Lafayette Assoc. LLC). I would like to give my support of full operating hours of an outdoor café of this restaurant. I live and work in this neighborhood and think Café Select has been a great addition to our area and has improved the quality of life of this neighborhood. I have already been looking forward to outdoor seating of this establishment. In general I think outdoor seating improves our neighborhood.

Kind regards

Will the effort work? All will be revealed on Thursday night.
