Joe Sitt and Richie Akiva Make A Butter Sandwich

Coney Island mogul Joe Sitt has finally found a tenant for his long vacant three story building on 14th Street in the Meatpacking District. According to Page Six, after two years of meeting with potential tenants, Sitt has agreed to a deal with Richie Akiva to open a 13,000 sq ft Meatpacking District outpost of Butter. The space will take both the ground floor and basement of the building, as well as the entire 5,000 sq ft roof space for what Page Six calls a "a small restaurant". It's not clear why they would open a second Butter so close to the original in Noho and just two blocks from their planned takeover of the Plumm space with Butter chef Alex Guarnaschelli, unless Akiva and partner Scott Sartiano were planning to put their once great restaurant and lounge out to pasture for good. The opening is planned for December.
