Cesar Fuentes, the organizer of the Red Hook Ballfields vendors is launching an open air market of sorts called Red Hook Mercado: "...the vision is that it will become a place friendly to the Red Hook creative community including musical acts, crafts, movies," a garden, and at least one vendor from the ballfields. Sounds like a less hip, more authentic and Latin Brooklyn Flea down on Van Brunt.
The vendors—papusa and huarache sellers that have long congregated around the soccer fields in Red Hook and have in the last few years enjoyed a cultish following—have already made appearances at the Fort Greene flea market and are now on the docket for Summer Stage.
