In chef Sam Mason's New York Diet this morning, he reveals he's currently working on opening a bar on Grand Street near Leonard in Williamsburg. The space—which some hinted was being taken over by the owners of the shuttered Artland nearby—sits on a scrappy but somewhat up and coming stretch that includes a new location of Bedford's Banh Mi, Huckleberry Bar, new dive Ontario, middling restaurants Hachi and Wombat, and neighborhood staple Bushwick Country Club.
Last he spoke of his Brooklyn dreams, Mason said he wanted to open a place with a stage, but he tells New York this bar will have "Just whiskey, beer, and a pool table." The scheduled opening is May 1.
