MIDTOWN— The owner of Heartland Brewery writes in to report that he just opened a new branch in Midtown at 825 8th Ave. (41st Street): "The 160-seat space features a 27-foot-long copper mural lined with famous quotes about beer and a mahogany bar with 44 barrels perched above it. I’ve put a lot of my personal collection of "breweriana" on the walls to add a sense of American craft brewing history." [EaterWire]

NIGHTLIFEGawker explores the truly bizarre practice of reality TV stars getting paid loads of cash for nightclub appearances: "Snooki gets $10,000. Kim Kardashian is yours for $50,000. But why do promoters pay? They tell us they have no choice." [Gawker]

EMERILWIREThe Emeril Lagasse Show (website) debuts at 8 PM Sunday night on Ion — sort of the chef’s stab at an old-school variety show. A handful of critics got test screeners, and report that while there is still a bit of cooking involved (like pierogies with friend/media overlord Martha Stewart), the show mostly features Emeril awkwardly bluffing his way through celebrity interviews, wine segments, and The Price is Right-ish contests.
