Painkiller to Serve Scorpion Bowls Named after Street Gangs

Because having a nostalgic tiki themed bar on its own just isn't enough, the owners of the upcoming LES bar Painkiller are taking the idea a bit further by naming their scorpion bowls—yes, there will be an entire menu of giant scorpion bowls—after gangs from the 1970s, "like the Electric Coffin, a large coffin-shaped bowl that will billow steam from a hidden chamber for dry ice in its underbelly." But that's not all! The owners are also getting "some of NYC’s classic old-school graffiti artists" to tag the walls. It is too much to ask that they screen The Warriors at all times? "Tiki bars usually look like a dive, a Disney ride or Grandpa’s basement. We’re going for something different,” the owner Richard Boccato tells Food & Wine, adding they'll also offer unlimited free hot dogs.
