Employee Walkout Closes Park Slope Staple Gorilla Coffee

New, 27 comments

Over the weekend seven baristas walked out on the job at Gorilla Coffee, a Park Slope standby, shuttering the cafe for the entire weekend and the foreseeable future. The problem? Says one source, it's because "the tyrants refused to comply with basic respect." Per another, it was the "perpetually malicious, hostile, and demeaning work environment." A long email sent to the press makes vague mention of "issues" and an "unhealthy situation" but makes no specific mention of what the heck was going on there. According to reports, they demanded that one of the co-owners leave the business—a request another owner called unreasonable—and when she didn't, they all resigned.

Entitled Park Slope whiners or courageous restaurant industry workers finally standing up to the abuse? Leave thoughts in the comments. And those with the real dirt on the owner, please drop a note to the tipline.
