New, 2 comments

WEST VILLAGE— From the tipline: "I was walking past the Grand Sichuan on 7th Avenue South this morning and noticed 2 DOH signs on the window. There were also big signs on the door saying they were closed because of gas problems, and that they hoped to be open soon." [EaterWire]

LOWER EAST SIDE— Florence Fabricant brings word that this June, Il Laboratorio del Gelato will open a new location on the Lower East Side that is five times bigger than its current spot: "The new space, at 188 Ludlow Street (East Houston Street), will stay open past 6 p.m. — perhaps has late as midnight on weekends — and will have about 15 seats inside, not just have sidewalk service." It looks like this will open in the luxury building The Ludlow. [NYT]

BOWERY 2.0— For the second requisite Pulino's mention of the day, we turn to Feast, which reports that McNally's pie joint will take reservations. [Feast]

UPPER WEST SIDE— The West Side Independent reports that the Upper West Side location of Magnolia Bakery won't have to get rid of it's sidewalk cafe space after all. The community board rejected the bakery's appeal to keep the space, but the City Councilwoman for the district will not object when the motion goes before the council. [WSI]

LONG ISLAND CITYCrain's brins the news that the brothers behind the lauded Long Island City restaurant Shi are opening a new space just down the street. The new restaurant, a Mexican spot called Skinny's Cantina, will open in a new luxury building this fall. [Crain's]
