Already Trouble at Ryan Skeen's One Week Old 5 & Diamond

New, 20 comments

Oh, Ryan Skeen. Trouble just seems to follow that guy wherever he goes. Yesterday some rumors started trickling in that all was not well at the runaway chef's latest undertaking, 5 & Diamond in Harlem, his fourth restaurant in as many years. In sum they alleged that the chef is not a partner in the restaurant (though he told the press he was), that he is a consultant and will soon move on to consult the Coffee Shop/Empire Diner team, that the GM and the entire front of the house staff recently walked out due to his behavior.

As is often the case, there is some truth there. Grub Street reports today that indeed the FOH walked out and there was an altercation of sorts that may or may not have involved Skeen getting punched in the face by his now former GM Gwen Butler.

Butler (who does not deny the fight) says her staff walked out "in protest over his attitude toward me and the owners’ complete lack of integrity vis a vis our original partnership agreement and my role as GM." Yikes. It's almost as if this scenario was predicted just a week ago.

As for Skeen's position at the restaurant, he says he's "working on a partnership.” Click through for the full he said/she said.
