Yet Another Tropical Cocktail Bar/Resto to Open in Manhattan

New, 9 comments

Flo Fab reports that Julie Reiner, the cocktail maven behind Clover Club in Brooklyn, plans on turning the old Tailor space at 525 Broome St. into a tropical themed cocktail bar. This bar will arrive on the heels of Painkiller, an upcoming tiki bar in the old East Side Company Bar space, and The Hurricane Club, a Polynesian bar from the team behind Park Avenue Spring. She tells the Times that this is not a tiki bar, but please note that they'll be serving Pacific-rim cuisine "with dishes like tuna poke, barbecued ribs and, though it might not be tiki-tacky, there will be a pu-pu platter."

Welcome to the cocktail trend of 2010, fun whimsical, frothy. The new bars are welcome for sure, but there's a concern that this is a bit of an overcorrection for the super serious cocktail dens of the late aughts.
