As The Cuozz mentions in his column today, the Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel is one of the Manhattan icons that locals tend to avoid but mourn when its gone (see also, Tavern on the Green). "It was one of those places that defined postcard Manhattan, and was inextricably woven into the city's fabric of celebration." So it's nice to hear that the restaurant is reopening after 15 months of being shuttered, on April 12. As mentioned last week, chef Willis Loughhead will be at the stoves, but the restaurant will only be open for breakfast, lunch, and afternoon tea—it will host private events at night. It will feature new furniture, a much cheaper tea service, and a "more accessible" menu.
