Acting on some twitter intel last night, a group of Eater operatives in the vicinity of The Gutter in Williamsburg headed on down to South 6th Street to confirm that yes Zak Pelaccio's Fatty 'Cue quietly opened to the public last night, about six days ahead of schedule (or two years behind schedule, depending on who's counting). Not only is it open, but it looks like it's going to be the Southside neighborhood-maker many had hoped it would be.
As with any early opening, the place was overstaffed—it seemed like 19 people said thank you and goodbye on the way out—and just about every server was on his game (extra points to the guy in the "Bloggers Suck" t-shirt). The atmosphere in the three story joint is festive, casual. As for the food, there was not one miss in the marathon of 13 dishes from the smoked crab soup to the lamb shoulder, the red curry duck to pork spare ribs. Same goes for cocktails. And the prices fit the nabe—even when over-ordering, it's hard to spend more than $40-50 a head here. The bathroom situation is a literal shitshow, but that will hopefully be worked out quickfast.
With this, Pies 'n' Thighs, and the new Taavo Somer project, in addition to the old standbys like Diner, Marlow, and Luger, things are looking pretty good for Southside Williamsburg right about now.
