Bobby Van's Steakhouse proved an excellent plan B for the Sifty and Mark Bittman last Friday when their original restaurant of choice took a snow day: "There were martinis on the table within five minutes, warm, fresh bread and butter, the chance at a wedge salad and cherrystones on the half shell, a couple of steaks cooked rare." It didn't hurt that wines are 50 percent off on Fridays and Saturdays. [Diner's Journal]
