Hennings Tries Again to for East Fifth Street Empire

New, 3 comments

Village Bistro East, previously Le Gamin, is shuttered with a sign that reads "closed for renovations for 2 weeks." This explanation is both sad and suspicious, since it opened just last October after "extensive renovations" following an ownership exchange.

Turns out, according to the guys directly next door at Black Iron Burger Shop, that their owners—you may know them as restaurateurs Jason Hennings and Bob Giraldi—bought the space and are turning Village Bistro East into a new, different bistro, name pending. It's excellent timing, giving the last attempt at a space on East 5th St., Butcher Bay, just finally gave up the ghost.
Update: Hennings tells Eater that it's too early to comment on the restaurant project next door. Giraldi is not involved at all and has never been involved with Black Iron.
