SoBe Notebook: Days Two And Three

New, 1 comment

Michael Symon's coronation as King of Burgerland on Thursday night was only one of this highlights of this year's South Beach Food and Wine Festival. Over the past two days the star chefs have kept cooking -- and partying -- at more of the fest's big-ticket events. Here are a few dispatches from Eater Miami of what we've been missing down in SoBE:

GAIL SIMMONS SPEAKS-- Yesterday Eater Miami caught up with the Gail Simmons to chat about the festival and her new Top Chef spinoff, Just Desserts. Gail is hosting tonight's Daniel Boulud Tribute Dinner (fun fact: D-Biggity used to be Gail's boss at Le Cirque!) and revealed to Eater yesterday her pick for the strangest dessert she's come across in all her years of being a food world personality: "Season 2 of Top Chef, winner Ilan Hall once made a chocolate truffle filled with chicken liver! Thankfully I didn’t have to eat it." [Eater Miami]

CHAMPAGNE WISHES--Last night, the corks popped and the celeb chefs hung loose at the Perrier-Jouët Bubble Q. The event -- hosted by Emeril Legasse -- featured a roster of top-notch chefs from around the country preparing their signature dishes accompanied by a seemingly endless stream of premium bubbly. Although there were some serious big name chefs cooking at last night's fest -- including Todd English, Emeril, Adam Perry Lang, and the two Hot Tamales, Susan Feniger & Mary Sue Miliken -- the big hit of the event was the grub prepared by John Besh, chef at New Orleans's restaurant August. According to our spy, noted party animal Guy Fieri brought his A-game to the bash as attendee. Click over to Eater Miami for a full gallery of the bubbly-infused star chef party. [Eater Miami]

THE RYTHM IS GONNA GETCHA-- -- Eater Miami gets the scoop that the entertainment at tonight's Sobe Soundcheck at The Raleigh with Rachael Ray will be none other than Grammy Award winning superstar (and cookbook author) Gloria Estefan. [Eater Miami]

BEST OF THE BEST -- Last night the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hosted Wine Spectator's Best of Best, a high stakes cooking throwdown from some of the best chefs in the country including Masaharu Morimoto, Laurent Tourondel, Michael White, Michael Psilakis, Paul Liebrandt and Scott Conant. While there were tons of star chefs eating and schmoozing throughout the night, Hip Hop legend Rev Run raised the most eyebrows when he was seen chatting up Real Housewife of NYC Kelly Bensimon. Thankfully, there is photographic evidence of this strange, strange meeting of minds over at Eater Miami. [Eater Miami]

We'll have much, much more from the shores of SOBE throughout the weekend. Stay Tuned to Eater Miami, Eater National and Eater NY for more from the center of the action.
