What makes Diner so popular? Besides its uber-Williamsburg credentials and lack of competition on the south side, is it possible that Mark Firth and Andrew Tarlow's staff is using some kind of special potion to keep its mustached minions coming back? A Sunday brunch visit found a breakfast hash on the menu, made with sweet potatoes, breakfast sausage, caramelized onions, pot, and a sunny-side up egg. Whether it was just a cheeky staff having fun with their bleary-eyed customers, or a mind-altering ingredient, the dish flat out worked - it was 86'd by 2 PM.
